Ah, to be a guest at The Four Seasons Miami. The carpet is a lovely, subtle beige hue, the curtains are understated and elegant, and the city (and your troubles) are far, far away…

Or so they’d like you to think.

Remember that game you used to play as a kid (and, um, perhaps that game you played yesterday in the back of a celeb gossip rag) where you had to count up all the differences between Picture One and Picture Two? Well, comparing these two photos of The Four Seasons Miami — the image accompanying the description of a Deluxe City View room on their website and our own photo of the same type of room — is sort of fun like that game.

You know what’s probably not so fun? Expecting the room on the left and finding the green carpet and festive curtains you see on the right instead — and then looking out your window to discover the sweeping view of the Miami skyline is, in fact, a breathtaking view of the building next door.

But that’s your fault. You should have read the (ultra) fine-print on the website: “Photographs are an example of room quality only. Some items may have been rearranged or added, and views may differ. Please refer to the written descriptions for specific physical details and views.” Cue sad trumpet sound effect.

TripAdvisor Business Listings already purchased by more than 12,000 hotels worldwide

Paris is the city with more TripAdvisor Business Listings than any other location in the world, with 234 out of 1,834 properties – 13 percent of the city’s total TripAdvisor lodging listings – adding their contact information to their TripAdvisor listing to date.

TripAdvisor has announced that more than 12,000 B&Bs;, inns and hotels around the world have added their URLs, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses to their TripAdvisor listings. The enhanced listings were launched in January of this year, and allow property managers to directly connect to millions of researching travelers, converting potential customers to paying
guests.

Paris is the city with more TripAdvisor Business Listings than any other location in the world, with 234 out of 1,834 properties – 13 percent of the city’s total TripAdvisor lodging listings – adding their contact information to their TripAdvisor listing to date.

“TripAdvisor is so important for us today!” said Nelly Rolland, owner of Hotel Residence Foch, the 12th most popular hotel in Paris on TripAdvisor. “I spend the majority of my time with my clients and I know that about 60 percent of the tourists come as a result of TripAdvisor, so I wanted to be one of the first purchasers of a business listing.”

Rome, Florence and Venice also have seen rapid adoption of business listings, adding 191, 115 and 101 new listings, respectively, among Italy’s total of 1,199 Business Listing purchasers. Other hoteliers from around the world have also subscribed in large numbers: In Marrakech, 108 hoteliers have made it easier for travelers to contact them, as well as 98 in Costa Rica and 51 on Santorini.

TripAdvisor Business Listings are offered on a flat-fee subscription basis, with a cost that varies according to an accommodation’s number of rooms. One-year subscriptions begin at $600 per year in the U.S., and those properties that purchase now will receive a 30 percent discount on their first year’s subscription.

“Hoteliers from big cities to small towns around the world, and at every position on the TripAdvisor popularity index from no. 1 to no. 894 have signed up for TripAdvisor Business Listings and are now just one click or call away from travelers,” said Nathan Clapton, vice president of partnerships for TripAdvisor. “We’re thrilled to see properties of all sizes benefitting from Business Listings, from two-room B&Bs; to 1,000+ room flagships of major hotel chains.”

Google’s acquisition of ITA would create dominant online travel business

A low-profile software company in Cambridge may be worth $1 billion to Internet search giant Google. Well, ITA claims to handle more than 65 percent of the sales transactions on airline websites, including six of the 10 largest US airlines’ sites.
A Google purchase of ITA would help the dominant search engine compete with Microsoft’s upstart Bing search service, which has a prominent travel area that uses ITA software and features tools like ticket price predictors.
PhoCusWright’s Philip Wolf said: “What this rumored deal signals is that you can’t be serious in search without doing a better job with airlines to search, shop, and buy travel. . . . A combination of Google and ITA would be positioned to create a whole new standard for online travel sites.’’
Google could use ITA Software’s tools, which help users find online flight information, to compete with travel-search features offered by Microsoft. The companies are tussling for share in the U.S. market for online travel, which generated $88.4 billion in sales last year, according to Sherman, Connecticut, travel consulting firm PhoCusWright Inc.
“Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information, and ITA does that for travel,” said Henry Harteveldt, an analyst at Forrester Research Inc. in San Francisco.
